Coach Popp played high school football at Franklin High School in Livonia, Michigan. He attended Wayne State University and was a three year starter as a Quarterback. He has been working with Coach Fracassa, at his QB Camp, since 1978. He also coached at Maple City Glen Lake and Southfield Lathrup High Schools. His enthusiasm and passion for the game is evident as he said, “I love working with the young men and families at Brother Rice High School.” Coach Popp has been teaching for 26 years, the last 22 in Southfield, at Birney Middle School. “I love the middle school kids because they think they know all the answers and I have yet to ask the questions. It’s a lot of fun and a great challenge!”
He has been married to his wife Carolyn for 12 years and they have six incredible children. His sons Frankie (’10) and Andrew (’12) both played football, graduated from Brother Rice and are in college.
Coach Popp will be entering his 8th year coaching at Brother Rice and 3rd as a varsity assistant. After five seasons as the head coach of the JV team, Coach Popp led the JV team to 3 undefeated seasons and 3 consecutive league titles. He will be working with the varsity secondary and special teams again in 2013.
